报告人简介：

Nelson Max is a professor of Computer Science, University of California, Davis.  He was elected as ACM Fellow in 2011. He got his MA in Mathematics, Harvard University in1964, and Ph D in Mathematics, Harvard University in 1967. Prof. Max's research is in scientific visualization, computer animation, realistic computer graphics rendering, and multi-view stereo reconstruction. In visualization he works on molecular graphics, and volume and flow visualization, particularly on irregular finite element meshes. He has rendered realistic lighting effects in clouds, trees, and water waves, and has produced numerous computer animations, shown at the annual ACM SIGGRAPH conferences, and in OMNIMAX stereo at the Fujitu Pavilions at Expo '85 in Tsukuba Japan, and Expo '90 in Osaka Japan.

报告摘要: Dr. Max will show a computer animated film prepared for Expo '90 in Osaka, visualizing photosynthesis and muscle movement at the molecular level, and discuss current work on micro-CT imaging of developing tomato plant leaves. He will also show mathematics visualization of curves that cover a square and a cube, and of turning a sphere inside out.
