报告摘要:

In this talk, we will provide an overview of state-of-the-art wireless powered communications (WPC), where the wireless communication devices are powered by dedicated wireless power transmitters that provide continuous and stable microwave energy over the air. As a promising alternative to conventional battery-powered communications, WPC is not constrained by the limited battery lifetime, which opens up the potential to build a network with larger throughput, higher robustness, and increased flexibility compared to its battery-powered counterpart. However, the combination of wireless energy and information transmissions also raises many new research problems and implementation issues to be addressed in this talk.

The organization of this talk is as follows. We first introduce radio frequency (RF) enabled wireless energy transfer (WET) technology and existing performance-enhancing techniques. Then, we discuss an interesting application of WET named simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), which jointly transmits energy and information using the same radio waveform. At last, we study the optimal designs in wireless powered communication networks (WPCNs), with highlights on the new design challenges and opportunities ahead.
